Every one of us arrived into a world of a particular size. Pick the year you were born and the country you call home, and this tool shows you the snapshot: how many people shared the planet on the day you turned up, and how much that crowd has grown since.

The figures come from the UN World Population Prospects, the same dataset behind the rest of this site. They cover 1950 onward, so if you were born earlier we simply show your number for 1950. It is a small, humbling way to see your own place in the long arc of human population.
