The world population is an estimated 8.32 billion as of 8 October 2026, and it grows by about 68.9 million people over 2026: roughly 133 million births against 63.6 million deaths. The counter above is that same estimate carried forward to this moment, one person every 0.5 sec.

What this number is

An estimate consistent with the UN’s medium projection, not an observation. The UN publishes one population figure per year, as of 1 January. This counter takes 1 January 2026 (8,266,245,291) and 1 January 2027 (8,335,111,500) and moves between them in proportion to the elapsed time in the year. Births and deaths are the projected annual totals for 2026 spread evenly across it. No global register of births and deaths reports in real time, so every population clock, including this one, is a model.

What changed in 2026

  • World population passed 8.3 billion in June 2026, on the UN medium projection interpolated between its 1 January values.
  • About 68.9 million people are added over 2026, slightly fewer than the 69.3 million of 2025. The growth rate is 0.83% against 0.84% in 2025.
  • The year opened at 8,266,245,291 and closes at 8,335,111,500. Those two values are the whole model behind the counter: everything between them is interpolation, not observation.
  • The dataset is unchanged: UN World Population Prospects 2024, processed 2026-06-15. When a new UN revision is imported, the counter, this page and every embedded widget change together.
